45+ Things To Do In (and Around) Park Slope
[Free letter] Plus, newsy links and a puzzle for your weekend.
Hi! How was your week? My daughter spent most of the week at home with me, so it’s a short issue today. But there are over 45 things to do in the neighborhood over the next several days, listed below, including Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations and events supporting people impacted by the L.A. fires. Plus, some interesting local news, including a soon-to-be-blooming corpse flower at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
Also, thank you to everyone who has filled out my anonymous reader survey so far. I’m still collecting responses and would love to hear your feedback, if you haven’t filled it out yet. Thank you in advance!

This week’s puzzle is a photo of a blooming corpse flower at the United States Botanic Garden.
The puzzle is 60 pieces, but you can change it by clicking on the box of nine dots on the left of the bar, selecting the number of puzzle pieces you want, and clicking OK. Also, you can view the original image by clicking the photo icon on the top bar, and you can make your workspace full screen by clicking at the top right.

A corpse flower is about to bloom at BBG: “Native to Sumatra, Amorphophallus gigas is an infrequent bloomer and quite rare in cultivation. They produce a unique inflorescence (flower head) that will only last a few days.” The flower, located in BBG’s Aquatic House, will likely start blooming in the next few days.
NYC Restaurant Week kicks off on January 21st: Running from January 21st through February 9th, the program invites diners to sample prix-fixe 2-course lunches and 3-course dinners at $30, $45, and $60. Park Slope’s Chela, Fleur, Stone Park Cafe, Palo Santo, Pasta Louise, Dram Shop, Lore, Masalawala & Sons, and Flatiron Steakhouse are participating this year. Check out the full list of restaurants participating in the event.
Park Slope neighbors and members of the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission are trying to save 44 Berkeley Place from demolition: The Department of Buildings sited “significant deterioration” of the building, like a partially collapsed roof, structurally unstable staircase, and interior walls that are collapsing, and issued an emergency demolition. The group of neighbors and members of the Committee to Save 44 Berkeley Place want to postpone the demolition to find an investor who can make necessary repairs and rehabilitate the structure.
